December 2010 LSAT Scores Released?

There were some silly reports on twitter Thursday evening that December 2010 LSAT scores had been released, but as of now, that’s looking like damn lies. So, while you all are waiting for scores to be released, we thought we’d provide you with our resolutions for the New Year:

*Get Colin Elzie to quit smoking.

*Collectively lose 1000 pounds as a company.

*Stop taking tequila shots before noon. East Coast time.

December 2010 LSAT Instant Recap

Howdy all. Another LSAT is in the books and, according to our East Coast correspondents, games were once again a doozy, with one involving stained glass windows that was a particular pain. Apparently, the sheer length of the games made it difficult to have room to diagram and write down the rules, which echoes the dreaded June 2009 games section.

We’re also hearing that there were some test center closures in the East, but we’re waiting on official word. Did any of you have a closed test center? What were your reactions to the test? Let us know in the comments thread or on the discussion board.

December 2010 LSAT Predictions

As the resident Miss Cleo of Blueprint, it is incumbent upon me to gaze into a nonexistent crystal ball and, somehow, magically foresee what will appear on the impending LSAT.  So here goes again…

1.    The curve will be easier than a limbo showdown with Yao Ming.

I gotta go with recent trends on this one.  From 2004 through 2007, I made a habit of warning potential lawyers about the tightening curve.  However, for whatever reason, that trend has reversed in the last two years.

The Alarming Number of October 2010 LSAT Takers

Last year, 60,746 test takers sat for the October LSAT, the single largest administration of the LSAT in the history of the test according to Wendy Margolis, Director of Communications for LSAC. Upon hearing the numbers, the legal profession groaned: dire predictions ensued and warnings to pre-law students were issued. Alas, the collective weight of the profession was not enough to dissuade would-be lawyers and June of 2010 constituted the single largest number of June test takers, ever.

Would the October 2010 LSAT continue the alarming trend?

Making Yourself as Calm as Buddha for the LSAT

Here at MSS, we’re fairly open-minded. I think, based on an informal poll of one person, that we all voted for Proposition 19 (except me, because I don’t vote). I’m pretty sure that we have more bearded employees than any company in the LA area outside of those that grow marijuana. I even live with a girl who has a toaster that plays the Winnie the Pooh song.

So I want you to understand that we’re not an outwardly judgmental people when I say this: I’m sort of appalled by students using non-prescription beta blockers. Lawyers.com has a this-week-in-no-shit post concerning college and high school students taking beta blockers to calm themselves down prior to the standardized tests, big performances, or any kind of high pressure situation.

October 2010 LSAT Analysis Video

After days and days of serious intellectual toil, we’ve come up with our analysis of the October 2010 LSAT.

Overall, it seems that logic games were of a more uniform difficulty than in years past, reading comprehension was pretty hard, and logical reasoning was generally pretty average in terms of difficulty. We can’t go into too much more detail for reasons of national security and LSAC’s licensing agreements, but for slightly more in depth analysis (including a brief explanation of the driver/cars game), check out Matt’s video covering the ins and outs of the test after the jump (or in the featured video tab on the right hand side of the page).

October 2010 LSAT Scores Released! Curve Analysis

When I opened my eyes this morning, I knew something was different.  LA traffic was muted.  Oprah was doing a special that didn’t involve Dr. Phil.  Somewhere in Schenectady, a student executed a series of cartwheels on a linoleum floor.  It can only mean one thing.

October LSAT scores are out.

And the question on everyone’s mind is…how was the curve?  The short answer is that it’s fairly friendly.  Which means it was a bit more pleasant than what we were expecting based off of our October 2010 LSAT recap responses.

Private Tutoring and the LSAT: Evaluating the Tutor Stampede

It’s no secret that most of the global economy (excluding Wall St.) is in the dumps. Various media outlets rarely pass up an opportunity to remind us that virtually all industries are treading water, or if they are lucky, squeaking out some modest growth. That was why I was somewhat surprised by this New York Times article from a few days ago that pointed out one industry that is thriving: private tutoring. It was a follow-up to this article, which considered the effects of this tutoring stampede. Consider the following:

- Spending on tutors is growing by more than 5 percent each year

Rod Taynes’ October 2010 LSAT Recap: Location Does Matter

Hello out there to my fellow October 2010 LSAT comrades. I sincerely hope that everyone is in relatively good spirits now that the exam is behind you and you have had some time to decompress. I would like to share my own LSAT experience with you, as well as compare this administration with the June administration (without ruffling any feathers over at the LSAC about their intellectual property, of course).

I signed up to take the October LSAT in Orange County because Saddleback College was the closest “Blueprint Certified” testing site that had availability.

The Morning Cometh: the October 2010 LSAT Aftermath

Another LSAT come and gone.  After spending the last 24 hours talking to students, I have a pretty decent idea of what the test was like.  The verdict?  Not much.  No mauve dinosaurs.  No crazily hard RC passages.  But then again, not particularly easy, either.  It seems that the only thing that really stands out about the October 2010 LSAT is just how conventional it all was.

There were a few interesting developments.  Apparently in the experimental section there was an LR question about Kafka, which is new, because in general the LSAT only has questions about authors I’ve never heard of or actively dislike.  So that’s nice.  There was also a question about W.E.B. Du Bois, an author whose name few people know how to pronounce, I learned.
