Update: Blueprint LSAT Prep Movie Quotes Contest Change

Consider this the sequel to Monday’s LSAT blog post. Or at least, its gritty reboot.

Over on the Blueprint LSAT Prep Facebook page, we are running a new contest that involves posting a quote from a law-related film and having our followers guess which movie it’s from. Originally, we gave away a $50 discount off a summer Blueprint online LSAT course or $100 off our summer live LSAT class to the first person to comment with the correct answer. After some thought, we’ve decided to open things up to give more people a chance to win. Here’s the update:

After we post the quote on the Blueprint LSAT Prep Facebook page, followers will have a set amount of time to comment with the movie title.

Act Fast or Risk Being Waitlisted at a June LSAT Test Center

Over the last couple years, there’s been a lot of talk about how quickly the population of LSAT test-takers has declined. Despite all that, many aspiring law students are finding that their LSAT test centers of choice are already full for the June LSAT. Is there going to be a rebound in the LSAT test-taking population, or has LSAC adjusted to the trend by making fewer seats available? If you’re locked out of the LSAT, it doesn’t really matter what the cause is.

What can you do about this? If there is, in fact, an LSAT test center open within 100 miles of your domicile, you get two choices: you can take what LSAC offers you or you can hold off on registering.

If you decide you don’t want to take the exam at some distant LSAT test center, it’s possible that if you check back later something closer will open up.

Tips to Improve Your LSAT Study Habits (and LSAT Score)

LSAT prep season is getting in full swing. This winter, per usual, was a quiet time in the pre-law world; few people sit for the February LSAT, and there’s a lull of activity in the early months of the year. But springtime has sprung, and people are gearing up for the June LSAT. So what should you do if you’re planning on taking the test in a few months? Well, this may sound obvious, but you should study. You should study frequently, you should study well, you should study regularly. You should study.

Here are some LSAT study tips:

LSAT Study Tip I: Do the work

For those of you taking an LSAT prep course, whether online or in-person, it’s not enough to just do the lessons.

Your LSAT and Law School Timelines (Should) Start Today

Today we have a guest post from Anna Ivey, founder of Ivey Consulting.

What’s the ideal LSAT timeline? Your mileage may vary, and your LSAT instructor will be able to give you advice customized to your individual situation. But in a perfect world, here’s how I like to work backwards from the end goal:

Plan to submit your law school applications in early November (or even sooner, but early November is plenty early). In order to maximize the time you have on your applications, and to let your brain focus on — and master — one thing at a time, that November law school application submission date means I like to see people take the LSAT the February before that.

LSAC Releasing February LSAT Scores Today, On Schedule

LSAT score release day is always stressful. The uncertainty. The waiting. The drinking.

Right on schedule, LSAC is releasing February LSAT scores today. I always feel like February LSAT score release day is even more stressful than the other LSAT score release days. With every other LSAT administration, you can go back over your test, see what went wrong, and beat yourself up for those stupid mistakes. Demoralizing? Yes. But not nearly as stressful as just getting a number and forever wondering what went wrong.

I’ve got a few more of you drinking now, don’t I?

The February LSAT is a weird beast, so the advice I give to those receiving their February LSAT scores today is also going to be a bit wonky. Read Entire Article…

6 Semi-Interesting Takeaways from LSAC’s Demographic Data

If you want to know how much time the LSAC spends analyzing the demographics from every administration of the LSAT, you only have to check out data they release after each one. Here’s the most recent of LSAC’s reports.

In it, you can see trend lines for pretty much any combination of demographic information you’d ever want to know (and, for the most part, stuff you really don’t care about). So what are some of the fun facts to be discovered within its pages?

1) Canadians love the LSAT
Outside of the United States, Canada clocked in at number 2 with 7.1% of LSAT test-takers sitting for the exam. And since there isn’t a draft on, I assume the vast majority of them are actual Canadians.

Matt Shinners’s December 2012 LSAT Predictions

Holiday music is playing. I’m five pounds heavier than last month. And Starbucks rolled out its Christmas blend about a month ago. It’s official: The season of the December LSAT is upon us.

It seems to start earlier every year.

While LSAT test-taker numbers are down, tens of thousands will still head to an LSAT test center this weekend. What should they expect when they get there? Here are my predictions for the December 2012 LSAT:

December LSAT Prediction I: Logic Games

Games on the October LSAT were pretty straightforward, albeit with one killer at the end. Here’s a rundown:

Giving Thanks to the LSAT (and Our LSAT Prep Students)

In case you’ve had your head in LSAT prep books for so long you haven’t had a chance to look at a calendar, Thanksgiving is Thursday. And this year, there’s plenty to be thankful for.

For those of you who sat for the October LSAT like I did, you can be thankful for having that delightful experience behind you. For the December LSAT test-takers out there, you can be thankful for the fact that it’ll all be over in less than two weeks. And we can all be thankful for the remake of Red Dawn opening this weekend, only in theaters. It truly is a joyous time.

What about us LSAT instructors? Well, we have plenty to be thankful for, too. First and foremost, we’re thankful for the LSAT. We know, we know. How could anyone be thankful for the LSAT’s existence?

The Toughest Questions From the October 2012 LSAT

Now that the dust has settled from the release of the October LSAT (as well as its LSAT scores), it’s time to take a look at the actual meat of the test. There were a number of different questions that people struggled with, but I probably heard more complaints about the following three than any others (excluding the zones game and !Kung reading comp). We can’t reproduce the questions in full, so if you took the October LSAT look at your test PDFs to follow along.

Toughest October 2012 LSAT Question No. 1: LR 1, #13

Building material controversies. It doesn’t get much more exciting than this. In this question we learn that there’s some rogue construction material called papercrete. Most builders think it’s no good for big buildings.
